WBKA Public and Product Liability

The WBKA has acquired an insurance policy that offers insurance cover to officers, individual members and members of affiliated associations. As a member of the WBKA you are provided with insurance relating to Public (also known as 3rd Party Liability) and Product liability for the sale of honey and products of the hive, including cosmetics.
The public and product liability insurance offers a £5,000,000 limit of indemnity, with a £500 excess applying to all third party claims. N.B. There is currently no restriction as to where honey may be sourced. However should any member wish to import foreign honey for sale then the following conditions will apply. The imported product will not be altered, blended or repackaged in any way. The goods are not to be imported under terms which prevent the individual raising a claim against the supplier/ producer of these goods.

Frequently Asked Question:

1. How do I know I am covered? By becoming a member of a local beekeeping association or an individual member of the WBKA your details are passed onto the WBKA membership officer, your name is then placed on the insurance database ensuring cover is in place. It is important to keep your renewals up to date!

2. How do I get to a copy of the insurance certificates? A copy of the certificate of insurance is now available for download from the WBKA website. It is also circulated to affiliated associations membership sectaries every October, and is obtainable from them directly. Click here for a copy of the current certificate.

3. What am I covered for? Both the public and products liability sections cover accidental bodily injury to a third party and accidental loss of or damage to third party property. Under product liability you are covered for the sale of products produced from the hive. These can include Honey, Beeswax, Candles and cosmetics products. Under public liability you are covered for injury to members of the public resulting from beekeeping activities. These can include stings, slips, trips and falls. If you are unsure as to whether your particular activity is covered. The WBKA insurance officer can be contacted to seek clarification.

4. How do I make a claim? Should you need to make a claim against the policy you should contact the WBKA Insurance officer as soon as possible and provide a general background to the case and all corresponding information. PLEASE NOTE: ALTHOUGH THE INSURANCE PROVIDED IS EXTENSIVE IT IS IMPORTANT TO INSURE THAT ALL UK LEGISLATION IS COMPLIED WITH AND THAT ADEQUATE RISK ASSESSMENTS HAVE BEEN CARRIED OUT AND DOCUMENTED.
