Professor Robert Pickard
The Trustess are please to announce Professor Robert Pickard has kindly agreed to become a patron of the Welsh Beekeepers Association.
In the archives from this magazine’s predessor, the Bulliten/Newyddlen no. 72 in 1986. Beekeepers in Wales are being being kept up to date with the bee research undertaken, and the academic courses available at the University College Cardiff.
Professor Robert Pickard has supported the WBKA 75th Anniversary Conference held at Aberystwyth. Presenting two lectures, one of which his delivery was given with multidiciplinary approach and precision. The listening beekeepers were stunned into silence with what they had heard. Similar to hovering bees around an empty honey pot waiting for more honey to appear.
The recent WBKA Spring convention at the RWAS Llanelwedd, the lecture hall was well attended as Professor Pickard presented a talk on Honeybee Thoughts, comparing the honeybee brain with that of a human being.
In addition to the numerious scientific advice for a wide range of institutions. Robert Pickard is also an international authority on the biology of honeybees and Chair of the International Bee Research Association. He is President of the Cardiff Beekeepers Association and the UK Central Association of Beekeepers. Formerly, he was Editor of the Journal of Apicultural Research. He has been described in Bee World as “an original research scientist and a gifted teacher” and his public lectures on energy, environment, agriculture, honeybees, nutrition, brains, social evolution and Shakespeare have been popular throughout the world, from North America to New Zealand.
The WBKA looks forward to a long association with Professor Robert Pickard as a Patron of the Welsh Beekeepers Association.
